PCC Gary Godden
Gary Godden was elected Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2024.
Having lived in Nottinghamshire for 25 years, and spending 15 years as a police officer within Nottinghamshire Police, Gary has a good understanding of the policing service and the different communities of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
This included working as part of the Vanguard Plus team – a multi-agency team tackling serious crimes like gun, gang and knife violence, and working closely with the most vulnerable people in our communities. This experience influenced Gary to make a difference not only in the police but it also broadened his perspective, leading him into politics.
Gary’s career has also involved working in the NHS, including most recently as Assistant Head of the Graduate Management Training Scheme at NHS England, where he built experience of compassionate leadership and partnership working.
In his earlier life, Gary grew up in Barnardo’s care homes until he was adopted by his parents at the age of seven. After finding his way in life, his desire grew to make a positive impact on his community.
Gary is passionate about building public trust and confidence in Nottinghamshire Police and ensuring the service is the best it can be.
His priorities for his term in office also include tackling knife crime, antisocial behaviour and violence against women and girls, as well as enhancing high-visibility neighbourhood policing, tackling speeding and making our roads safer.
Gary is also committed to being accessible to the public and open and transparent in his work in representing the people of Nottinghamshire.
Deputy PCC Angela Kandola
Nottinghamshire’s new Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Angela Kandola is a community champion with over 25 years of experience supporting vulnerable people.
In her new role, she will take on a lead role ensuring people from all of Nottinghamshire’s diverse communities have equal access to policing and community safety services.
She will spearhead a drive to enhance engagement with young people, black and minority ethnic communities, people with disabilities and other protected characteristics – to improve trust and confidence in policing.
Angela, who was awarded a British Empire Medial (BEM) in 2018 for her services to vulnerable people while working with the Nottingham-based ethnic minority mental health charity Awaaz, brings a wealth of experience, passion and community connections to the role.
Her experience serving the community also includes her time serving Nottingham City Council in the Berridge ward since 2019. She is also fluent in languages including Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, which will be useful in her community engagement on behalf of the PCC.
Another of Angela’s key roles is to lead Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden’s drive to make Nottinghamshire a safer place for women and girls by working with partners to prevent sexual and domestic violence and provide support to survivors.
She will also lead on regional collaboration with the East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward, to help maximise investment and partnership working in Nottinghamshire and will deputise for the PCC at meetings – meaning the expanding demand on the PCC’s time can be met.
Here at Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, we are committed to creating safer communities across the county, and we believe that the best way to do this is to prevent incidents from happening in the first place.
As part of our work to do this, we offer a free online safety check that takes you through your home, one room at a time, and helps you spot potential fire risks – offering advice and guidance at each stage on the steps you can take to reduce those risks.
Once you have completed your check you will receive a personalised fire safety action plan to help keep you safe. We may then also contact you to arrange a home safety visit, if we feel it is necessary based on your answers.
