Nottingham News Centre CIC (NNC) is a leading Nottingham-based social enterprise, specialising in Black and diverse heritage education products and services.
Founded in 2013 by Director and Historian Dr. Norma Gregory, NNC’s resilience and impact are supported by numerous community partners, mentors, volunteers and through public demand.
Our commitment, through rigorous research activity, is to challenge, review and improve access to diverse industrial heritage education and resource provision. NNC stands as a role model in diverse heritage leadership, which has earned NNC many awards and commendations at local and national levels. Our goal is to work more internationally, supporting initiatives that help protect and manage heritage for the future.
At the core of the Nottingham News Centre’s mission are our values, which are to promote equality, inclusion and access for all. We work towards achieving this through our dedicated and innovative re-presentation of industrial /historical events, concerning diverse communities in the East Midlands and beyond.
The impact of our work is felt locally, nationally and globally through our inclusive heritage awareness campaigns, clean air campaigns, inspirational event programming, online content output and speaker contributions, highlighting the contributions of the African Caribbean Diaspora to industrial heritage in the UK and beyond.
Regular contributions to The Voice newspapers, The Guardian, BBC/ITV broadcast programming (i.e., research contributions, image and sound archive sharing and speaker/writer contributions) as well as our online publications and educational content shared through The Black Miners Museum, devised and founded by NNC in 2017, contribute to a call for a fresh approach to heritage leadership and diverse community collections made accessible through digital technology and a vision for positive change for all.
Nottingham News Centre thrives on collaborative partnerships, commissions and by working as project managers and co-creators/producers for local and national projects, museums, and organisations based in the UK and overseas.
NNC aims to strengthen and celebrate our global community and commonalities, making everyone feel included and part of our shared heritage and shared contexts.
